Side effects of the pain killer Codeine

Codeine is a pain-killer that is extremely popular with a great number of users around the world and there is no doubt that there is a legitimate reason for people to use and take this form of medication. There is a huge problem with pain-killers though in that people can become quickly addicted to them and find that their benefits wear off over time. This is because the user will quickly develop a tolerance to them meaning that if the user wishes to experience the same feeling they had when initially taking the drug, they need to take a higher dosage to do so. Any drug which encourages a higher level of use on a growing basis carries a great number of dangers, both in the short-term and long-term.

The short-term dangers of over using pain-killers are that people can fall into a dream like state where they are unable to respond quickly and become sheltered to what is actually happening. This numbing of the emotions is obviously attractive to people who are experiencing troubles or difficulties in life but it can also be very dangerous as they do not know when they are experiencing pain. This may mean that people do not seek medical help when something occurs, which can be very dangerous and could ruin a persons life in the long term. Read more…

Rehab Treatment For Teenage Drug Abuse

Have you ever imagined that your child can be found guilty of a drug related offense or an associated law-breaking crime? Perhaps the best penalty according to the law would be for the court to sentence him to jail, but the law also permits the judge to commit such sentence to community service and or the attendance of a rehab treatment program.

Taking drugs and other banned substances harm you physically. If a patient continues to secretly take drugs while undergoing a drug rehabilitation, the applied rehab therapy would surely be unsuccessful. This is why inpatient drug rehab program, which keeps close eyes on the patient, is considered better than out patient rehab facility.

The drug rehabilitation program given to a teenager is targeted towards detoxifying his body so that he will stop craving for the substance of abuse while also educating him on the dangers of drug taking. As the child finishes his drug rehab program he becomes exposed to the dangers of drugs and learns to prevent himself from any drug activities that endanger his life.

Drug Abuse Statistics – Trends in the New Generation

Monitoring the drug abuse statistics in our youth is a great indicator of the future of the next generations. Organizations such as Monitoring The Future (MTF) have been conducting research since the mid 1970s on the use of drugs amongst 12th grade students and their perception of drugs and its use. The University of Michigan’s Institute of Social Research conducts the studies.

The study is longitudinal and follows the patterns and changes in attitudes of the students over time. In 1991, the studies included 8th and 10th graders too.

The latest drug abuse statistics conducted by MTF were taken in 2008. The key findings showed a decrease in the abuse pattern for a majority of the drugs compared to the previous year.

There were a few positive results that were highlighted. In 2008, the number of 10th graders that have used any illicit drugs in their lifetime had significantly declined in comparison to 2007.

The percentage of youngsters in this age group that smoke cigarettes have continued to decline over the years, and has fallen to the lowest rate in the history of the survey. This is a promising finding, as the use of tobacco is one of the major concerns in health problems.

What Does it Take For Drug Detoxification?

If you desire to stop using drugs and you intend to stay off them then you must go through a process which is called drug detox first. Anyone can become addicted to taking drugs, regardless of how you have begun using the drug, most drugs will not take awfully long to become ingrained in your body. Drug detox aims to relieve your body of all the elements which have permitted the drug to become deep-rooted within your body. At the best of times drug detox is never easy, it is always uncomfortable and on occasion can be particularly harrowing.

You certainly need to have strength of character in order to give up taking drugs. There are sufficient numbers of drug detox centers which will allow you to sign yourself in where you can spend a week or so going through drug detox, but if you do not have the fortitude and strength, then you will be back to routine, with the predictable drug using cycle as soon as you come out of the clinic. You want absolute pledge in order to survive the drug detox process and the succeeding therapy, but where do you get the fortitude for this?

Opiate Addiction Symptoms and Signs

Opiate addiction is an insidious problem that has plagued society for centuries, but perhaps never more so than today. A two-edged sword, opiates can heal or destroy.

An opiate is any drug derived from the opium poppy plant. The main opiates are morphine, heroin, and codeine.

Thebaine and papaverine are also opiates. More commonly we see opiates in their synthetic forms: oxycodone (OxyContin, Percodan), hydrocodone (Vicodin), and hydromorphone (Dilaudid). Darvon, Demerol, and Methadone are other synthetic opiates. The majority of these drugs are used medically for pain management.

Opiates are particularly effective in suppressing pain and reducing anxiety. In sufficiently high doses, they can produce a euphoric state. For this reason, they are often used as recreational drugs. Psychological and physical dependence leading to addiction is common in frequent opiate users. The body quickly adjusts to the use of opiates such that increasingly larger doses are needed to produce the same euphoric effect. Overdosing, sometimes resulting in fatal respiratory failure, occurs when addicts take more than their body can handle.

Most opiates can be swallowed, snorted, smoked, or injected. Intravenous injection is the preferred method of longtime addicts as this method produces the quickest, most intense high. It is also a method accompanied by increased risk of infectious disease.

Learn How Substance Abuse Addiction Originates

It is a known fact that sometimes, families can even sort of encourage the individual to continue on with his substance abuse addiction. How so? What are they doing that actually acts to the detriment of the individual. Sometimes this happens by the parents using drugs. It also happens by parents who are too busy with their careers to spend any quality time with their children, or parents that are divorced and just don’t care. The kids in most cases turn to the streets to raise them, and depend on their friends for all their needs.

What makes it even harder for someone with a drug dependent family is that some families who have a history of Long Term Drug Abuse wouldn’t feel comfortable with someone in their family that is straight. And I’d even go as far as to say that the family wouldn’t know how to deal with it. They might for example say something like, “It’s cool, one hit won’t kill you”. But it will distract them and no one can do one hit and not want to keep going and get high.

Have You Gone Through a Drug Alcohol Intervention Program?

If you know someone who is an addicted to drugs, and just goes on drinking binges until they drink themselves into oblivion, and after they’re in a drunken stupor want to exacerbate their drunkenness with marijuana or other hard drugs, it’s time for them to get help. But please remember that 90 percent of the time they will deny they have a problem. They will do whatever it takes to remain in their drug or alcohol induced stupor. This is their comfort zone.

So what you need to do as someone responsible for this person is take action as soon as possible. A great place to start would be Alanon. It’s an awesome program that works with AA or Alcoholics Anonymous. They will tech you what you need to learn to not only get sober, but to stay sober and how to deal with the issues that got you starting to drink in the first place.

Unfortunately you alone can’t make anyone better. Rehabilitation is something people have to do for themselves. But if they get to an Alanon meeting they will soon realize they are not alone, and the support there is like no other place for people suffering from Drinking Problems.

Not Just a Heart Attack, But a Broken Heart

The stories that surround Michael Jackson’s life have gained much international attention for the last month. Never would one imagine that he would have stolen the hearts of thousands with his music, charm and talent, and would exit this life taking with him the tear drops of millions of people. On June 25, 2009 it was not just Michael Jackson that died, but many people died internally as they saw their music idol laid to rest.

Many criticisms from Anti-Michael activists have made it their obligation to defame, slander and water the image of the King of Pop to another drug addict that went above the law with his money and power. In some popular forums, thousands dish out their hate in three scathing words-’So Long Pedophile’.

It must be pointed out that the intention of this article is not to condone in anyway the questionable conduct of Mr. Jackson, but to point out one thing that was overlooked throughout these years prior to his comeback for an international tour, and that is, his heart.
