Alcohol is created when grains, fruits, or vegetables are fermented. Fermentation is a process that uses yeast or bacteria to change the sugars in the food into alcohol. Drinking alcohol is dangerous for kids and teens and sometimes for adults, too. Alcohol is a drug, and it is the drug most abused by teens. Many kids have their first drink at an early age, as young as 10 or 11 or even younger.
It is definitely easy for kids to get the wrong idea about alcohol. They usually see their parents drinking, and they even see it on television commercials that it’s fun being drunk. You might see people drinking and watching sports together or having a big party.
But alcohol is actually a depressant. That means it is a drug that slows down or depresses the brain. It can affect the way people speak, think and act. A person might lose his or her balance and have trouble with walking properly. The person might be able to feel relaxed and happy and then later will start crying or even looking for someone to fight with.
People who are drunk have a tendency to hurt themselves. Sometimes drunk people experience hangover. Drinking too much alcohol can lead to alcohol poisoning, which can kill a person. Alcoholic people kill their liver by drinking too much without even knowing it.
Alcohol abusers or problem drinkers are those people who drink too much on a regular basis. Drinking becomes more and more important than anything else, including job, friends and family. It can be tempting to try alcohol. It’s normal to be curious about new things, especially if it seems like everyone is doing it. But remember that not everyone is drinking alcohol.
And if you are concerned about your friend who is drinking alcohol you should tell one of your parent or another trusted adult. In that case someone can talk with your friend before the alcohol causes a big problem to him or her. Some kids who drink may also be drop out of school, get in car accidents, start fights, or join in crimes.
Instead of letting your children engage in alcohol, why not let them exercise to maintain a healthy body? You can let them engage in activities such as simple exercises or workouts to ensure that they maintain an active lifestyle.
