Preschool Children With Autism – The First Steps to Early Intervention

Preschool Children With Autism In my primarily ages as an the first part of childhood teacher in a minimal private preschool, if one of the children in my care was not next the ‘norms’ of development, it was not obvious to me how I is able to do. As we all know, the early childhood field can hold a fast turn throughout of staff in child care centres, and often the Directors or Authorised Supervisors have simply as small amount of or less field experience as further staff. My confidence as a teacher was the key…”was I right in suspecting a learning difficulty?” With little experience and only 3 years of theoretical knowledge at University dotted with intervals of practical teaching, I wasn’t always confident in my “gut feelings” or suspicions of a learning difficulty. With years of teaching experience now behind me, including in early intervention support, coupled with the understanding from a parent’s perspective, I would like to offer some suggestions of what to do when we, as early childhood teachers, suspect that a child in our care has a learning difficulty. The important thing to remember is that it’s not up to us to make a decision that a child has or doesn’t have a learning difficulty. Our responsibilities lie with gathering developmental information, knowing what professionals to refer a family to, and supporting parents through the process Preschool Children With Autism Observations The question I asked myself as a young teacher “was I right in suspecting a learning difficulty”? was more about me and my confidence in my ability. Really, we should be asking the question “is there a possibility that this child has a learning difficulty”? Read more…

Easy Steps Toward Defeating Shyness

We have all felt shy at one time in our lives. Chances are, it was in a social situation, maybe a party, or community gathering, where it seems like everyone else is having a great time. Wherever it may have happened, it was probably the worst feeling in the world. While experiencing shyness from time to time is extremely common, defeating shyness in the future is easier than you might think.

Many experts equate shyness with a lack of experience in social settings. This is largely because adolescents experience episodes of shyness more often than adults, suggesting that shyness is something that one naturally outgrows with time and exposure to these circumstances. However, for some adults, shyness seems to persist, and can feel paralyzing. If you are serious about defeating shyness, there are three steps that will help you to get started. Read more…

Anxiety disorders require treatment

Anxiety makes life hard. It turns life into existence that is full of fears and worries. People are no longer sure they are happy to be a part of this world and it stops them from having a healthy mind. Anxiety and depression are two famous factors that lead to suicides and despair steps. We all agree that anxiety should be treated but patients need care. They have to feel safe, not vulnerable, as vulnerability in some cases gives the similar impact as attempts of self-violence. Before any treatment begins we have to try to analyze the circumstance and reasons of anxiety appearance. It is not even a question to discuss whether you have to get medical assistance or not – it is a must.

Doctors have to perform a total examination of the body to figure out and conclude whether the patient really has anxiety or not, which anxiety disorders can those be and what else can affect the state of mind of the patient. It is important for people to understand that the treatment is supposed to be different and absolutely individual for each and everyone. Doctors have to be extremely attentive with their patients when it comes to determination of the issue. Read more…

The Therapist As a Client – Or Not?

Most therapists I know go into this field to help people. I bet you did too. Humor me for a second as I invite you to do a short visualization exercise.

I want you to think about one of your favorite therapy client success stories. Remember that special client and the pain or confusion they experienced before seeking your counsel. Picture them in your mind when they first came into your office. Remember their posture, tone of voice and the energy they projected. Now, fast forward through your treatment and see them emerging. The pain is less (or gone). The fear is manageable and the future looks incredibly bright. Breathe in the joy that you feel when you look at the transformation with that client.

What an amazing privilege it is to be a therapist.

People share their deepest worries and pain with us. They trust us with their hearts and their future. It is an amazing honor to do this work.

Month after month, we help people. No matter what your theoretical orientation, we do this work because we want to help people. We believe in the healing process of our work. Simply put, we believe in therapy. Incredibly, the Psychotherapy Networker reports: “Surveys find that 20 to 25% of therapists have never sat in the client’s chair.”

When I first read that, I didn’t believe it. Can you? How can we be so clear of the benefits and power of therapy if that many in our profession have never tried it? Read more…

Different types of depression

There are other theories such as the cause of depression arises from genetics. It is considered that it is the family and their behavior that has a predisposition towards depression. There are numerous studies and research that has shown family members who are affected by depression have a genetic makeup that is very different from family members who are unaffected by depression. A depressive disorder is a mental disparity exemplified by a pessimistic sense of insufficiency. A person commonly suffers from feelings of gloom and sadness, downturns in mood, despair, feelings of low self-esteem, guilt, self-pity, and loneliness.

Depression is not just a temporary or situational sadness, but a persistent and pervasive feeling of melancholy or hopelessness that is often associated with weight loss or gain, sleep disturbances, constipation, disturbances of sexual function, and feelings of remorse or self-blame. It also results into withdrawal from interpersonal contact, psychomotor retardation and continuous agitation. Read more…
