Disabled: Unsung heroes

UNSUNG HEROES

It was twenty five years when my wife and I made our vows to each other, one of them being to love honour and cherish in sickness and in health till death us do part.

Little did we know what these vows would mean so far down the line? I thank the Lord daily for the loving, caring, wonderful person He brought into my life. She cares for me both mentally and physically, uncomplaining even when I’m miserable, difficult or a right pain in the neck. I cannot express how grateful I am for her love and care.

But there are other unsung heroes in this world. Those women and men who unselfishly give of their time to work with and for the sick, aged, disabled, infirm or abandoned children to name but a few, cannot be praised and thanked enough. Read more…

Electric wheelchair

Wheelchairs mean so much to those with limited mobility. Thanks to wheelchairs those with limited movement can become more mobile and regain their independence. There are two main kind of wheelchairs and these are the manual wheelchair and the electric wheelchair.

The user actually pushes the wheels around and around to get from a place to place. Further more, the footrests to a manual wheelchair can be removed and the user can walk the chair forward with his feet. Read more…

Disabled: Disability made easier in 22 steps

After years of experience I can still never say that I have arrived and know everything about disability or how to cope with or combat it. One thing I have learnt is that disabilities vary vastly from person to person, even if diagnosed with the same disease, disability or condition (we won’t pursue the other synonyms in this article. That is an article on its own.)

I was once told by a very wise doctor that the reason for my sudden and unexplained falling was that I was tripping over my own pride. You see pride was getting in the way of me using the numerous aids at my disposal in order to avoid these sudden mishaps. Once I overcame my pride and removed the perceived stigmas attached to these devices, I fell less often, until eventually I parked my stubborn backside in a wheelchair. Hey Presto ———– no more falling. Read more…
